EXPERT-PSYCHOLOGIST RECOGNIZED BY THE COURT FOR THE FOLLOWING MANDATES

A

 

Chamber of Family Matters, Quebec Superior Court.

  • Cases of custody and access rights.

  • Assessment of parental abilities.

B

Under the Youth Protection Law, Court of Quebec.

  • Assessment of parental abilities.

  • Maltreatment (sexual, physical, psychological abuse; negligence).

  • Assessment of psychological profile (youth and parents).

  • Assessment of youth’s dangerousness.

Chamber of Civil Matters, Quebec Superior Court.

  • Assessment of damages.

WHY PERFORM AN EXPERTISE

A

Chamber of Family Matters, Quebec Superior Court:

  • Evaluation of parental abilities
    in relation with the child’s needs and parental personality
    profiles, in order to make recommendations to the Court
    in terms of custody and access rights for both parents, or with respect to the parents’ parental abilities. 

 

This, in the best interest of the child.

B

Under the Youth Protection Law, Court of Quebec:

  • Issue recommendations to the Court in terms of the child’s fundamental needs (secure home environment, optimized mental and physical health).

  • Issue recommendations in terms of the child’s life project (placement, establishment of family contacts – supervised or not – , reinsertion in the family home).

  • Issue recommendations with respect to the parents’ parental abilities.

  • Issue recommendations regarding the youth’s level
    of dangerousness.

This, in the best interest of the child.

C

Chamber of Civil Matters, Quebec Superior Court:

 

  • Assessment of the possible presence of psychological sequalae following a damaging incident.

This, in the best interest of the individual concerned.

HOW THE EXPERTISE PROCESS USUALLY UNFOLDS

A

Usually, an expertise comprises 4 different steps:

  • Clinical interview.

  • Administration of tests.

  • Administration of questionnaires.

  • Assessment of parent-child interactions (when evaluating parental abilities, or in custody and access rights cases).

B

 

Tests and questionnaires are chosen in accordance with the mandate of the expertise.

HONORARY FEES

Post-dated checks, prepared according to a pre-defined payment contract, need to be submitted on the first expertise meeting. One, two or multiple checks may need to be submitted in order to cover the entire costs of the expertise.
